ENGRG 1050 Engineering Seminar: Computer Engineering Hands-On Experience

This photo shows the final IoT system based on the Particle Photon boards. On the left is the IoT input device with an infrared rangefinder to detect motion. On the right is the IoT output device with a servo motor. When the IoT input device senses motion, it lights up an LED and sends a message to the Particle IoT cloud. Meanwhile, the IoT output device is waiting to receive messages from the Particle IoT cloud. When it receives a message, it lights up an LED and turns the servo motor. The servo motor has a small wooden striker which rings the tabletop wind chime. This IoT system is a simple example of emerging “smart homes” where various input and devices work together through the cloud to automate daily tasks and (hopefully) improve the overall quality of our lives.
